The PMC Team Boston Fire Fellowship

Established in 2019, The PMC Team Boston Fire Fellowship: Cancer Prevention for Firefighters is a research fellowship supporting a postdoctoral fellow committed to building research expertise focused on cancer prevention and occupational health for firefighters. The first of its kind at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the fellowship will include one or more mentored research projects related to cancer prevention among firefighters, including examining risks associated with physical, psychosocial, and organizational hazards in firefighters’ work environment.

Studies will focus on assessment of hazardous exposures potentially affecting firefighters, including PFAS exposure; qualitative and participatory research to identify priority health concerns of firefighters; surveys of firefighters to assess perceptions of exposures and cancer risk; analysis of existing data on physical hazards; policy identification and assessment to explore policies and practices that reduce cancer risk; biomonitoring for chemical exposures; and other priority areas.

All donations raised by Team Boston Fire will go directly to the restricted fund, and support this team of experts in their efforts to enhance cancer prevention and improve clinical outcomes for firefighters.
